The metabolic syndrome belongs to the a serious worldwide social problem. In the Czech Republic more than 30% of the adult population suffers from the mentioned disease. The metabolic syndrome contains, according to the worldwide accepted definition issued in 2009 [1], the five components which include obesity, arterial hypertension, hypertriglyceridemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus and a decreased level of HDL cholesterol. The positivity of three from the mentioned signs is necessary for the metabolic syndrome establishing itself. The metabolic syndrome is the state which is closely connected with the origin of cardiovascular diseases. However, the metabolic syndrome is a significant risk factor in the etiology of gastrointestinal, hepatic, pancreatic and generally tumorous diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, as well. The metabolic syndrome is one offrom the factors concerning the origin of non-alcoholic pancreatic steatosis (NAFPD – non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease) [2, 3]. This state is accompanied by the origin of type 2 diabetes mellitus, parenchymatous fibrotisation and gaining news concerning the origin of pancreatic carcinoma in the terrain of.
