To obtain comparable results in the laboratory practice the reaction has to be stopped after a defined time period. During the reaction change of colouration occurs (blue to yellow) and this is measurable by the spectrophotometer at the wavelength of 450 nm. In positive results the yellow colouration is visible even by naked eye.
